Our team of volunteers offer guidance, emotional support and practical assistance to help anyone affected by crime, including victims, witnesses and their families and friends. We’re an independent charity, powered by our volunteers. Our job is to support people from every corner of Scotland.
What our volunteers do
You’ll be providing practical and emotional support to people living in your local area, at a time when they need it most. We don’t expect you to have all the answers however, and the team here at Victim Support Scotland will be on hand to assist you and provide any training you may need.
Our volunteers will support people directly, both in the community and within a court environment
What our volunteers benefit from
Volunteering with us can be challenging but it is extremely rewarding. You’ll be supporting people when they need it most, helping them to recover and empowering them to move forward.
You’ll gain frontline experience of working within the criminal justice sector alongside like-minded people who share a passion for social justice.
You’ll learn new skills and gain access to a range of professional training courses relevant to your volunteering role.
You’ll be making a positive impact within your community as a member of a team actively working to reduce the impact of crime.
About you
We are looking for enthusiastic and committed people from all backgrounds from across Scotland.
While qualifications and experience are good to have, what’s more important to us is to have a ‘can do’ attitude and are committed to providing compassionate and informative services to people who have been affected by crime.
You could be a student or recent graduate who is keen to build their CV; or you could be a mid-career professional who is looking to take their life in a different direction. We are open to applications from people from all walks of life.
We know that our volunteers have busy lives, so we agree time commitments with each individual volunteer. However, we ask for:
A minimum commitment of approximately eight hours a week, to make a lasting impact on people’s lives.
A minimum commitment of at least one year, ideally two, so that you might get the most out of development opportunities and your support experience.
