Congratulations were passed on to Dumfries and Galloway recipients in the 2023 New Year’s Honours List.
John Collins, Lifeboat Operations Manager and Station Mechanic at Kirkcudbright RNLI, was awarded a British Empire Medal for Services to Maritime Safety.
John has been a member of Kirkcudbright RNLI for 31 years, continually as the Station Mechanic but also as a crew member until he was 45 and for the last 17 years as Lifeboat Operations Manager.
In a post to the crew on receiving the award, John said: “Kirkcudbright Lifeboat and Station is useless without our crew so I would not have received this award without being part of one of the best teams in the RNLI”
A British Empire Medal was also awarded to Sinclair Barbour, for services to Scottish Country Dancing in Thornhill.
An MBE was awarded to Mary Brown, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, for services to Healthcare in Scotland at Castle Douglas.
