The Day Centre was established 36 years ago to provide a central hub in Stranraer where elderly people can meet and socialise.
Adapted transport and travel assistance is available to collect people within a 20-mile radius of our local community.
Breakfast or morning coffee with a homemade scone can be provided on arrival, then at midday a freshly cooked 3 course meal is available and before our bus departs there is afternoon tea and cake.
Activities are on offer for those who choose to take part e.g., in the morning we have dominoes, scrabble, jigsaws, word searches and an interactive activity table. In the afternoon we have New Age Kurling, indoor bowling, quizzes, bingo, Tai Chi, arts & crafts to name but a few, we also have outings to local places of interest
We have a garden which allows our members to participate in a variety of outdoor activities e.g. tending to raised veg beds, flower planters, bird watching and general socialising with their friends.
The Day Centre offers an outreach service of Meals and Wheels in Stranraer, this is available to over 60's that are unable to attend.

Creetown Initiative's key aim is to support rural regeneration both locally and across Scotland using a variety of methods, including; business, arts and culture, sport, heritage, building redevelopment, environmental projects and education. Since 2006 we have raised £4.3m for local projects, including the development Barholm Accommodation; a 10-room budget accommodation, a community charity shop and electric car charge point. Other projects have included a £250,000 redevelopment of the local park, a car share and scooter loan scheme, youth work programmes, arts and environmental projects, elderly support project "Ferry Friends", restoration (£260,000) of the local community hall and a (£350,000) restoration of a former church which is now Quarrymen's Arts Centre. To fund the above we offer consultancy support across Scotland and since 2006 we have secured over £6m worth of funding for projects across the region, including £1.9 for the Theatre Royal in Dumfries, £2.6m for The Johnston in Kirkcudbright and £130,000 for the first Oyster Festival in Stranraer. We have supported community groups across Scotland on a variety of projects and since 2006 have supported over 90 projects . We offer feasibility studies, business planning, community consultation, governance and much more.

Crocketford Community Initiative (CCI) is responsible, on behalf of the village, for the insurance and maintenance of the King George V park. There is a good range of equipment for children including climbing frames, a zip wire, slide, swings etc. There is also a football pitch.

We are funded to provide the Small Repairs and Home Support Service to help keep our clients independent and secure in their own home for as long as possible. We provide home security (i.e. window and door locks, door chains), key safes (chargeable although installation is free), small repairs i.e. fixing leaking taps or putting up shelves (supplied by client), falls prevention (supply and fitting of grab rails, putting up curtain poles and changing curtains or changing lightbulbs) and minor adaptations i.e. moving furniture to accommodate a hospital bed. Our service is offered to people who either own their own home or who are tenants of a private landlord, are over 60, disabled, have a learning difficulty, mental health problems or who have been a victim of domestic abuse. If you’re not sure if we can help you, please give the Office a call and we will be happy to advise.
Dalbeattie and District Community Day Centre
Members are normally aged 60 or over with the exception of people with special needs. Prior to attending the manageress will note any particular needs or problems such as a special diet or difficulties with hearing, seeing or a medical condition. Centre is open from Monday to Friday from 9am until 3.30pm. Relative and carers are welcome to attend. A mini-bus equipped with a wheelchair lift can take members, free of charge if living within Dalbeattie town or a small charge outwith. District Nurses, Doctors, Chiropodist and social workers all pay regular visits to the centre. Annual membership is £17.50 and is due on 1st April. Members have the choice and final decision as to the type of activities provided, which are arranged and displayed in advance. A three course meal is available every day at 12noon with tea or coffee in the morning with biscuits and tea and coffee with home backing in the afternoon.

Aims and Objectives: To provide a fast and efficient life saving service for the patients of our NHS transporting urgent medical items free of charge using motorcycles where possible. We cover 24/7, 365 days a year. The service is provided entirely by volunteers. There are no paid staff within the group and all costs are kept to a bare minimum. We have no premises and operate from home, utilising donated premises for storage of the motorcycles and cars. Every penny raised is used to operate the service which costs in the region of £45000 per year to operate.

Dumfries and Galloway Hard of Hearing Group aim to help those with hearing loss to maintain their hearing. We currently offer appointment-based hearing aid care and maintenance clinics at fourteen locations throughout Dumfries and Galloway.
At these clinics, our fully trained volunteers offer hearing aid cleaning and re-tubing, as well as advice and support regarding hearing aid maintenance and managing your hearing loss.
We list the clinics available every week on our Facebook page and you can find the full list of available clinics on our website. We can also provide home visits to those people unable to visit our clinics.

The Gatehouse Development Initiative exists for the benefit of the Gatehouse Community and provides a framework for the development of projects within the community.
Amongst a range of benefits, the Initiative can save smaller projects the need to be formally established in their own right, can provide support with fundraising, provide insurance, indemnity cover and public liability cover, and provide book-keeping/accountancy services.
Meetings are open to all and membership of the GDI to all Gatehouse residents or anyone with an interest in the development of the community. New members and suggestions for new projects are always welcome - meetings are friendly and informal.
Many community groups are represented at meetings which provide for a useful exchange of ideas, and for reporting on the progress of current projects. Most projects are run by project managers who are often the initiator of an idea and who may have their own project team.
Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every other month at 7.30pm: February, April, June, August, October, December.

Our aim is to be a social space and workshop for Glenkens residents, and our objectives are to help members maintain their health and wellbeing and to assist the local community. Glenkens Men’s Shed is eco-friendly with PV panels to produce our own electricity, welcomes all ages, abilities and genders and has accessible facilities, on-site parking, and some of the area’s first e-car charging points (free to use). The club has continued to grow in recent years and now has over 300 members - with an over 40s section too! We have around 50 adult volunteers who all help to keep the wheels turning at the club. One of our key objectives is to be 'a great place to volunteer' so if you want to get involved in some capacity, come and talk to us.

Just Breathe O2 has been created in order to provide oxygen therapy treatment for clients of all ages from across the Dumfries and Galloway region and beyond who live with a wide range of medical conditions, ranging from ME, cancer, and Parkinson’s, fibromyalgia, Alzheimer's and M.S. through to cerebral palsy, diabetes, individuals recovering from major trauma and athletes looking to speed up the recovery process of injuries.
The oxygen therapy will be delivered as the core element of Just Breathe O2, with a view to collaborating with other like minded organisations, in order to build a range of accessible therapies designed to complement and benefit the individuals.

The aim of Kirkcudbright Skatepark is to provide a dedicated, safe, sociable and enjoyable outdoor facility for young people to play and exercise in the town of Kirkcudbright. The project encourages an active, outdoor lifestyle to benefit all ages from toddlers to teenagers in a rural community. The project aims to deliver this to the many skaters, bikers, scooters and boarders who already exist and skate around the streets in the centre of town (total population approx 3000, with 250 in primary school and 460 in secondary school, as well as visiting friends and family and tourists) providing a place which is suitable for their needs whilst encouraging more and more young people to become active and continue an active lifestyle all the way through their lives. With limited youth support in town (the local Youth Drop In has now closed) the skate park aims to create a social space where young people of all ages and from communities outwith the immediate town, can interact and feel supported. The space earmarked for the project (Gartshore Park) is already an extensive, designated recreational space for community purpose yet is under used with very few facilities and so this project would look to increase the potential of this space for a skate park in a great location which would be used by a significant number of local and neighbouring families as well as visiting families to the town.

The Lockerbie Old School project was conceived in 2013 after the Council made it known that the old Dryfesdale School in Lockerbie was surplus to their requirements. A group of local residents felt it should be saved and turned into a valuable community resource for the town and the surrounding area.
In Autumn 2020, the Old School was transferred into the charity's ownership. Plans for the building are currently being finalised and funding sought. We hope to create a versatile welcoming facility offering a multipurpose 'white box', meeting rooms, arts and crafts area and theatre space for the community plus rentable offices, therapeutic areas and calm spaces. We hope to open our doors in 2024.

Performance Collective Stranraer [PCS] is a development organisation created to nurture, promote and sustain rural theatre artists from Southwest Scotland – primarily Dumfries and Galloway, and South Ayrshire. These areas have little-to-no artistic training provision and we exist to bridge the gap between youth theatre and the professional performance industry – turning artistic outlets/hobbies into viable career-paths.
Founded in 2017, PCS is run by project producer Carolyn Yates and artistic director Sarah Rose Graber. PCS runs regular residential Artistic Development Labs [in collaboration with Wigtown Festival Company, we deliver an annual Mentoring Programme, we host masterclasses, workshops, theatre trips and create new theatre productions. We work regularly with regional partners Theatre Royal Dumfries, Ryan Centre Stranraer and our primary funder The Holywood Trust.
We have previously collaborated with the National Theatre of Scotland and YTAS/Chrysalis Festival, we have toured productions regionally and nationally, we have two current associate artists Drew Taylor-Wilson and Fraser Macleod [who help to deliver our output alongside Sarah Rose Graber] and as part of our annual mentoring programme we work with 10 leading industry professionals.

Riverside Day Centre

Open weekdays 9pm-4pm. The Riverside provides a place for older people to meet in warm, friendly surroundings. Less able members are provided with a bus service to and from the day centre. Upon arrival at the member's house, a staff member or a volunteer will enter the house and ensure it is safe. Bus remit extends from Isle of Whithorn to Gatehouse of Fleet, Glentrool and Kirkcowan. Staff assist people with toileting and personal hygiene. Throughout the day members area offered food and drink from a breakfast menu (9.30am-11.30am);morning tea and coffee and then Lunch which is prepared by a cook and kitchen assistant. In doing this they also offer a Healthy option in line with the Healthy Living award. Entertainment and activities are laid on every day after lunch. This also features bingo, dominoes, music, films, and New Age Curling. In addition members run Ceilidh dances on alternate Thursday evenings. Free wireless internet and access to computers are available as well as classes in computer and mobile phone use provided through Building Healthy Communities. The centre also benefits from weekly visits from a fully qualified hairdresser and beautician for a small fee. Annual member is £50 open to anyone over 60.

The RSPB is a charity for the conservation of birds and nature. We bring people together who love birds and other wildlife, and who want to take action to restore the health and diversity of the natural world.
One of their local bases is in Mersehead Nature Reserve. Situated on the scenic north shore of the Solway coast, Mersehead is an extensive wetland and saltmarsh area, a haven for breeding waders, wintering waterfowl and year-round bird and wildlife-watching.
Still a working farm, this reserve boasts a wide variety of different habitats and wildlife, from Barnacle Geese in the autumn and winter and Lapwings and Natterjacks Toads in the spring and summer. It's a stunning example of freshwater wetland habitats, wide expanses of intertidal sand and mudflats, woodland, farmland and of course a fabulous beach.
In spring, the air is filled with birdsong as birds compete to establish territories and attract a mate. And you can listen for the croaks of rare Natterjack Toads on the sand dunes come evening. In summer, look out for young birds making their first venture into the world. Autumn brings large movements of migrating birds, including huge flocks of wintering Barnacle Geese. In the winter, see mumurations of Starling swirling around the reedbed as they come into roost.

Solway Sinfonia
The Solway Sinfonia is a not for profit amateur orchestra with members drawn from the south of Scotland and north of England. Although it is an amateur orchestra, many of its members have made their careers in music and all play to at least around Grade 7.
The aim of the orchestra’s members is to attain a high standard of musicianship in concerts with two major concerts per year, as well as one or two smaller ones. Rehearsals are limited to about six in order that the music making is fresh and fun.

The Bunbury Banter Theatre Company
Bunbury Banter are an award-winning theatre company based in Dumfries and Galloway, producing imaginative, immersive and engaging theatre of all kinds.
Formed in 2006 by Ali Anderson-Dyer, Bunbury Banter make stories into accessible, shared experiences, with a sprinkling of magic.
Their artistic projects often involve working with new writing but the company also experiments with other forms of theatrical performance and storytelling, outside the realms of the traditional theatre space.
To date they have produced over eighty individual pieces of audio drama, several site-specific installations and staged many theatrical works.
The companys creative work has been enjoyed all over the world - our radio plays air worldwide and have received industry acclaim including winning the Best Short Drama in the British Public Radio Awards 2013 and previous nominations for both a Channel4 Talent Award and in the Radio Academy Awards 2012.

The Bunker also has a young leaders programme for young people aged 12-18 years to provide lifelong skills transferable to both future employment and higher education. The Bunker meets fortnightly on Friday evenings through term time.

The Holywood Trust is a charitable organisation which aims to help young people in Dumfries and Galloway. It gives grants to individuals and organisations, creating opportunities for young people in the region.
We want to help young people throughout Dumfries and Galloway fulfil their potential in cultural, educational and social aspects of their lives. We do this by providing financial grants to individual young people, and organisations which support or provide opportunities for young people in the region. We focus primarily on young people aged 15 to 25 years. However we will occasionally consider supporting vulnerable younger children for preventative measures in relation to health or social disadvantage, or if the activities are particularly inspirational!
The Hub Dumfries and Galloway
The Hub Dumfries and Galloway (t/a the hub- your community action centre) is a community anchor organisation based in Dumfries. We are a charity with a region-wide community development remit.
We provide a co-working base with development support for community groups, voluntary sector organisations and non-profit distributing organisations. The Mill on the Fleet

The Mill on the Fleet is a large exhibition centre in a restored 18th century cotton mill. It hosts an annual programme of temporary exhibitions on two floors as well as core displays on the history and heritage of Gatehouse and the Fleet Valley. It includes activities for children - dressing up, worksheets and other activities. The Gatehouse Tourist Information centre is based in the Mill, and the Mill also has a large shop showcasing regional arts and crafts, a large second-hand bookshop, and a café with riverside terrace. The Mill hosts live music events, talks and festivals throughout the season. It is dog-friendly, and has a lift to all floors. It should be noted that the lift is quite small and is a bit tight for larger powered wheelchairs, however both the ground floor and middle floor can be accessed directly from the outside.

The Talking Newspaper Association for Dumfries and Galloway
Using volunteer editors, readers, technicians and distributors we produce a weekly digest of news and announcements. This is sourced from eight local newspapers, read and digitally recorded onto USB sticks and distributed to visually impaired people in the region (currently ~200 people). We also produce a recording of longer articles sourced from local magazines and newspapers approximately every 8 weeks. We provide players and technical support to recipients and the service is completely free of charge. Our aim is to enable visually impaired people to feel more included in their local neighbourhood and region and to disseminate notices of services or social and cultural activities that might interest them.

Upper Nithsdale Arts and Craft Community Initiative (UNACCI) runs A’ The Airts, a Community Arts and Crafts Centre and Café nestled in the heart of Upper Nithsdale in Dumfries and Galloway.
We support local communities by providing a place where arts and crafts groups and individuals of all ages can meet. Our Craft Shop sell goods provided by regional artists and crafters, professional and amateur alike, as well as knitwear from Sanquhar Pattern Designs, a community project using the historic Sanquhar knitting making modern garments and giftware. We have a ground floor café with free WiFi access where visitors can sit and relax.
Additionally, we provide a venue to host a number of exhibitions and events, and school holiday programmes and after school workshops throughout the year in our craft rooms on the first floor and theatre space on the top floor, accessible by lift or stairs.

We have a general meeting in St John’s, on the first Friday of every month, starting at 10am–10.30am, where we have a range of speakers. Members can also attend different groups such as walking, strolling, books, world food, gardening, explorers, film and arts and crafts.
These groups are led by members and other groups may be formed at any time if members wish. Groups meet at different venues. Members are men and women who are no longer in fulltime employment.
There are no skill or qualifications required to join. An annual membership fee now is £20 and there may be a small fee to cover hiring of a room for certain activities.
