Dumfries and Galloway organisations have again been successful in the latest round of National Lottery Community Fund awards for Scotland.
Over 500 community projects nationally will benefit from a total of £17,341,549.
In this region, the successful organisations were:
Annan Athletic Community Benefit Club – £10,000
The group will use the funding to upgrade the clubhouse kitchen facilities to a commercial standard kitchen, providing improved facilities for use by varied community football teams and the wider community.
Annan The History Town Group – £1,891
This two month project will deliver a summer programme of free activities and events bringing all ages together and fostering civic pride and engagement.
Borgue Public Hall – £19,124
This group will use the funding to install a disabled toilet and level the floor to the toilets so that the hall is accessible to everyone in this ageing community. They will also upgrade the kitchen.
Castle Douglas Day Centre for Older People – £720
This year long grant will fund training for the group’s staff and volunteers, to better enable them to support the older people who attend sessions at the centre.
Coronation Day Centre – £11,712
This group will use the funding to replace inefficient and potentially unsafe kitchen equipment in the Coronation Day Centre.
Dalbeattie Community Initiative – £10,000
This group will use the funding to coordinate the development of a £7m project transforming the old school into an outdoor activity centre with £5.2m capital funding from the Levelling Up programme.
Dumfries & Galloway Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and
Transgender Plus – £5,441
This group will use the funding to stage the first Pride event in Stranraer.
Dumfries and Galloway Over 50’s Group – £17,050
This project will enable the group to continue their activities, reducing isolation and loneliness amongst older people living across Dumfries and Galloway.
Kirkcolm Community Trust – £5,234
This group will use the funding to run a programme of free social events for people of all ages in this small rural community.
Kirkconnel and Kelloholm Children’s Gala – £5,500
This group will use the funding for its 75th anniversary celebrations making this year’s children’s gala bigger and better than ever.
Kirkconnel Miners Memorial Centre Management Committee – £6,216
This project will improve the stage area of this rurally isolated community hall, enhancing the space for a wide range of community groups.
Kirkgunzeon Primary School – £3,840
This group will use the funding to install raised beds on a piece of land adjacent to the school which is let jointly to the school and community council and accessible by the whole community out of school hours.
Local Initiatives in New Galloway – £148,902
This group will use the funding to continue to support the regeneration of their rurally isolated catchment, and provide a regular programme of activities for people of all ages which will promote health and wellbeing and address isolation and disadvantage.
Moniaive Folk Festival – £2,550
This three day folk festival will deliver a free programme of activities for children and young people, bringing together all generations in this rurally isolated community.
Moniaive Initiative – £54,366
This group will deliver a wide range of activities for the benefit of the Glencairn community in Upper Nithsdale. The project will tackle social isolation and improve the
health and wellbeing of local people in this rurally isolated community. Based in Moniaive, the activities will involve 9,000 people and 110 volunteers over three years.
Oasis Events Team – £20,000
This group will use the funding to run the Youth Beatz Fringe Festival in 2024 and 2025.
South West Recovery Cafe – £18,420
This group will use the funding to deliver a two year programme of monthly recovery cafe events in Lochside, Dumfries providing a forum for peer support to people affected by addictions.
Spinal Injuries Scotland – £148,405
This group will use the funding to continue to support people with spinal cord injuries and conditions in Dumfries and Galloway and the Scottish Borders, and their families and friends. Over three years, the project aims to benefit 1,800 individuals and involve 12 volunteers.
Springholm Memorial Hall Committee – £10,000
This group will use the funding to develop a community garden around the Memorial Hall with several features chosen by local people. The garden will enhance the Hall as a social hub.
St Johns Town of Dalry Town Hall – £9,090
This group will use the funding to carry out refurbishments to the Town Hall which is well used by the community for a programme of weekly activities.
The Buccleuch Centre – £4,320
This eight month grant will fund the development and delivery of a youth-led Burns Supper taking place in January 2025.
Next Chapter Scotland – £35,776
This group will use the funding to engage with people with lived experience of the criminal justice system in Scotland to get their experiences and views on where improvements are needed. The information gathered will be used to put together a training course which will support people to build confidence and resilience.
