Why do people volunteer? This session looks at how third sector organisations can attract the right people for the right role. We look at how third sector organisations can develop a recruitment process to suit their needs including developing role descriptions to help with volunteer recruitment. The session also helps organisations think of ways of overcoming barriers to volunteering to enable more people to volunteer.


Free to third sector organisations in Dumfries and Galloway.


  • Understanding the Scottish Government’s definition of volunteering and types of volunteering.
  • Identifying organisation’s needs and barriers in recruiting volunteers.
  • Understanding volunteer motivation and how you can use this knowledge in recruiting volunteers.
  • Knowing which policies and procedures should be in place prior to recruiting volunteers and during it.
  • Designing volunteer role descriptions.
  • Identifying the methods of recruitment best suited to their organisation.
  • Reviewing how to make their volunteer roles as inclusive as possible.

This session is aimed at any Third Sector Organisation who recruits volunteers for their organisation including trustees, volunteer co-ordinators/managers or staff.


The training will be delivered by Kateryna Stoian, our Volunteering Development Coordinator. Kateryna is central to supporting good volunteering leadership, creating and promoting volunteering opportunities and advocating for more inclusive volunteering.

The session will take place on Zoom. A Zoom link will be sent out prior to attending with the joining instructions before the session
