Kate’s Kitchen is seeking to recruit an additional Support Worker to support the delivery of its community hub in Annan, a town in Dumfries and Galloway in the South West of Scotland. This post will also support the outreach facilities in Lockerbie and Langholm.

Kate’s Kitchen is a friendly staff and volunteer run drop-in facility that operates 4 days a week, providing support to its service users through in-house training, life skills or by signposting to other agencies, enabling clients and volunteers to achieve their full potential. We also run our own charity shop on separate premises, which acts as a training opportunity for our clients/volunteers, as well as generating income for the organisation. Our vision is “To alleviate social isolation, poverty, their causes and consequences within our community and, in so doing, recognise the value of every individual.”

The post holder must be able to drive and have access to a car for work purposes to support the pop-ups in Lockerbie and Langholm.

Job Description
• Provide a responsive, effective and high quality, support service to our service users
• Support service users to use local services and facilities, including health, education and work opportunities
• Signpost or give advice and practical assistance to service users including benefits, budgeting, and housing issues
• In collaboration with other staff deliver group sessions on improving health and wellbeing
• Encourage service users to use Kate’s Kitchen for social support, to learn new skills, build confidence and as a stepping stone to integration in the wider community
• Promote self-advocacy and act as an effective advocate as appropriate
• Effectively manage your own allocated workload
• Ensure all services are delivered maintaining confidentiality and a high standard of care
• Record all relevant data on database maintaining data protection legislation
• Liaise with enquiries from social workers and other health professionals regarding your service users in line with Kate’s Kitchen policies
• Effectively manage your own allocated workload
• Contribute and work as part of a team
• Participate fully in staff meetings and training

Essential Criteria
Health and Social Care SVQ Level II
Excellent verbal communication skills
Experience of database
Driving License Holder

Desirable Criteria
An understanding of how this role supports our charitable purposes
Experience of working in a Third Sector organisation
Experience of working with volunteers

Accountable to the Manager you will liaise with staff, volunteers, service users and all stakeholders of Kate’s Kitchen. The post will be based at the Old Bank, 52 High Street, Annan with regular travel required to our outreach facilities in Lockerbie and Langholm for which a rate of 45p per mile will be paid.
