Are you interested in gaining valuable experience in the hospitality industry? Join us as a Café Volunteer at The Devil’s Porridge Museum and develop your customer service and hospitality skills in a welcoming and supportive environment. As part of our Museum Mentorship Programme, funded by Young Start, you’ll receive personalised mentorship from experienced professionals who will guide you in building the skills needed for a successful career in hospitality.

Key Activities:
As a Café Volunteer, you’ll play a crucial role in creating a positive experience for our visitors. Your primary duties will include:
• Customer Service: Greet and assist customers, ensuring they feel welcome and valued.
• Order Taking & Food Preparation: Learn to take orders efficiently and help with basic food and beverage preparation, such as making tea, coffee, and light snacks.
• Cash Handling: Handle transactions accurately, with guidance from your mentor, to ensure you develop confidence in managing payments.
• Food Hygiene & Safety: Gain hands-on experience maintaining a clean and safe café environment and learn the importance of food hygiene practices.
• Stock Management: Monitor and replenish stock, ensuring the café is well-prepared to serve visitors.
• Event Support: You will provide support during special events and functions, where you will gain experience in catering and event service.
• Mentorship & Development: Work closely with your mentor, who will provide ongoing support, training, and feedback to help you improve your hospitality skills.

Mentorship & Development:
• Personalised Mentorship: You’ll have a mentor from our team who will provide one-on-one guidance, helping you build the skills and confidence needed to thrive in a café setting.
• Skill Building: Your mentor will focus on developing specific hospitality skills tailored to your interests and career goals, from customer service to food preparation.
• Career Guidance: Receive advice on pursuing a career in hospitality, with your mentor sharing their experiences and providing insights into the industry.

About You:
Prior experience is optional; your mentor will provide all training and mentorship. We are looking for volunteers who:
• Are eager to learn and take part in a structured mentorship programme focused on hospitality.
• Do you have a friendly, approachable nature and enjoy interacting with people?
• Are you passionate about providing excellent customer service and contributing to a positive visitor experience?
• Can commit to volunteering for at least one morning or afternoon session weekly.
• Are motivated to develop skills that could lead to a career in the hospitality industry.
