Role Overview:
Are you passionate about working with young people and engaging with the community? As a Youth and Community Volunteer at The Devil’s Porridge Museum, you’ll assist in delivering educational activities, community events, and creative workshops. Through our Museum Mentorship Programme, funded by Young Start, you’ll receive personalised mentorship from experienced professionals who will support your growth in museum education and community engagement, helping you to develop the skills needed for a career in this rewarding field.
Key Activities:
As a Youth and Community Volunteer, you’ll be involved in a variety of activities, with a strong focus on mentorship and skill development:
• Supporting Educational Activities: Assist with the planning and delivering educational sessions for school groups, including history lessons, guided tours, and interactive activities.
• Craft and Creative Workshops: Help facilitate craft activities and creative workshops for children and families, encouraging hands-on learning and creativity.
• Community Events: Contribute to the organisation and execution of community events, such as seasonal festivals, heritage days, and special outreach programmes.
• Youth Engagement: Engage directly with young people during museum visits, workshops, and community events, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.
• Climate Action: Plan and deliver workshops, exhibitions and activities to promote climate action.
• Programme Development: Work with the Youth & Community Engagement Officer to develop new activities and programmes that meet the needs of our community.
• Mentorship & Development: Collaborate closely with your mentor, who will provide ongoing guidance, support, and feedback to help you grow in your role.
Mentorship & Development:
• Personalised Mentorship: You will be paired with an experienced mentor who will guide you through your volunteer experience and help you develop skills in education, youth work, and community engagement.
• Skill Building: Your mentor will focus on developing skills that align with your interests and career goals, such as public speaking, lesson planning, event coordination, and youth mentoring.
• Career Guidance: Receive advice on potential career paths in education, community work, and the non-profit sector, with your mentor sharing their experiences and professional insights.

About You:
Prior experience is optional; we will provide all the necessary training and mentorship. We are looking for individuals who:

• Do you have a friendly, approachable nature and enjoy interacting with children, young people, and diverse community groups?
• Are you passionate about positively impacting the community and fostering a love of history and learning?
• Can commit to volunteering for at least one morning or afternoon session weekly.
• Are motivated to develop skills that could lead to a career in education, community work, or the non-profit sector.
