Wheatley Homes South will be delivering their environmental roots employability programme in Dumfries. Due to the way the programmes are funded, places can only be offered to Wheatley customers. This is anyone living in a Wheatley Homes South, formerly DGHP house, or anyone being supported by Wheatley Care.
Environmental Roots is a 4 week employability programme for people unemployed.
Candidates will go through 2-week classroom based training and gain accredited qualifications in:
- Manual Handling
- First Aid
- Health and Safety
- Small Plant Tools Training
- Chartered Institute for Housing Level 2
Candidates then take part in a 2 week work placement based within Wheatley Homes South Environmental Services on tasks like grass cutting, hedge trimming, stair/close cleaning and bulk uplifts. On successful completion, candidates will have an opportunity to progress into their FT changing lives paid placements for 12 months, paid at the Scottish Living Wage or a 2 year Modern Apprenticeship if they are aged 16 – 19.
The programme will start on the 27th of February. All candidates will need to go through a disclosure Scotland check before going on to the programme so Wheatley Homes South need referrals to come in quite quickly.
If you have any questions or would like to make a referral, please contact Gavin Edmonds.
